Churches – SS Peter and Paul in Charing, Holy Trinity in Charing Heath (which also served Lenham Heath), the Methodist Church in Charing and the Primitive Methodist Chapel (which no longer exists) in Lenham Heath – played a major role in the life of the community.

The Reverend David Ross Fotheringham, vicar of Charing from 1912 to 1939, was a crucial leading figure in the community. While, like many in his time, he had a belief in the nobility of war which jars today, he was caring and compassionate, had noted scholarly interests particularly in astronomy and his writing in the Parish magazine was often inspirational.

The second panel tells how the Rood Screen in Charing Church was constructed after the war as a memorial to those who died.
